To New Beginnings

Taking the Next Step
So I write this as my first real post. I have decided to take this site and make it more of a place to where I can share a bit about who I really am. That sounds like a load of bs, which it kind of is. Really I just want to keep record of the stuff going on in my life so I can look back and reflect on where things have come. I figure that putting this information about my journey is what this whole new world of Social Networking is all about. If an agent that has potential interest in me lands him or her self here, then its probably best they get to know me now.
So over the past 4 or 5 month I have been keeping busy in various Off off broadway productions and student/independent films. While the experiences have been great, I am starting to feel like I need to be putting my efforts into getting into higher end work. The issue is that all the known and easily accessible audition notices are really only filled with this lower tier work. So now I find myself realizing that I need to just go out and get myself and agent!
Trying to get an agent has been something I had been fearing and putting of for a number of reasons. The biggest being that I hate the idea of forcing myself upon people that dont want me to be there. The nature of finding an agent, well at least succeeding at finding an agent, involves knocking down doors and making yourself known until someone takes an interest. This involves a lot of being blown off, which is something I need to deal with.
So right after Christmas I am coming back to the city full of vigor and ready to attack this task in the following ways (i hope)…..
- Targeted Mailings to Agents that are not too large, but not too smalll….juuuust right…
- Doing walk ins with agents that are more commercial focused, because I hear that is somehow less difficult to walk into off the street
- Audition for interview agent based companies like One on One Productions . These companies let you have time infront of agents to show off what you are capable of. This is exciting because the hardest part of getting an agent is finding ways for them to see what you are capable of.
- Take a class that focuses more on selling yourself as an actor instead of improving your acting techniques. While I love the later kinds of classes, I need to know what and how to go about the commercial side of this business I have gotten myself involved in. Knowledge is power and the more I can figure out the better position I am in. As you can tell I am writing all this mostly as a personal motivation
- To be determined
This is only agent fetching related stuff. I also plan on working on casting agents and various extra casting offices. Anyway there is a lot more to talk about, but I dont want to burn myself out on this whole ‘blogging’ thing too soon. Its 6:30 in the morning and I must sleep. Stupid House and Ugly Betty keeping me up all damn night!
Until next time
